The idea of using your own blood to heal and rejuvenate your skin may be cringe-worthy to some until you understand the benefits. Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, has been used for decades in the world of Sports Medicine to accelerate healing and induce regeneration of healthy tissues in sports industries. It has only recently crossed over into the world of aesthetic medicine. Skin Artisans is excited to now offer this innovative and effective treatment therapy as an add-on to our popular SkinPen® Microneedling and laser resurfacing skincare services.
What is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)?
PRP is a component of your blood that can be used topically to help repair and rejuvenate your skin. PRP stimulates your body to produce powerful growth factors that accelerate healing, boost collagen production, and enhance blood flow. When used cosmetically, PRP can help you heal faster from a procedure, improve the smoothness and efficacy of your results, and leave skin with a vibrant glow that is full of life and vitality!
How does PRP enhance the results of microneedling and laser resurfacing?
Microneedling and laser resurfacing work by creating a controlled wound to your skin. This reaction is beneficial because it triggers the body’s wound healing cycle, which includes a significant boost in collagen production. Microneedling and laser resurfacing are so effective for smoothing the skin and addressing issues of texture such as fine lines and acne scarring because of this enhanced collagen production.
Topically applying PRP during and after your microneedling treatment allows powerful growth factors to channel deep into your skin to heighten collagen production even further and also expedite the healing process. Applying PRP after laser resurfacing, especially a deeper treatment with ProFractional™ or HALO™, can dramatically decrease your downtime and lead to smoother and firmer results. In BOTH cases, PRP leaves recovered skin with an incredible glow with collagen-stimulating results that continue for months after treatment!
What happens during a PRP treatment?
A PRP treatment begins with a simple blood draw from the arm. Blood is then spun down in a special centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma component. At Skin Artisans, we use the most advanced centrifuge available for this purpose, the Progen® system. Your Advanced Practice Esthetician will then topically apply the PRP during and/or after your microneedling or laser resurfacing treatment. She will advise you on how long the PRP is to be left on your skin and instruct you how to care for your skin after your treatment correctly.
Experience the power of PRP by adding it on to your next SkinPen® or laser resurfacing treatment!
