COLLAGEN STIMULATORS VS. FILLERS
Collagen stimulators and hyaluronic acid dermal fillers both have a volumizing effect, but there are key differences in how they achieve it, when results appear and how long they last.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is found naturally in our skin, eyes, joints and connective tissue. It has a very high capacity for attracting and retaining water. Together with collagen and elastin, it is essential for maintaining structure, volume, elasticity and hydration in our skin. Many popular dermal fillers, including Juvéderm® and Restylane®, use HA to create an immediate plumping effect in the injected area.
Hyaluronic acid fillers last various lengths of time, depending on the area where it is administered, and the type of filler used. No HA filler is permanent. Eventually, the body breaks down the product and the effects fade away. Injections must be repeated every six to 24 months to achieve long-lasting results. HA fillers can also be dissolved by injecting an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
Collagen stimulators like Sculptra® Aesthetic are newer products that address an underlying cause of facial aging, not just the visible symptoms. They don’t just fill — they work in the deeper tissues to increase collagen growth, thereby restoring volume and skin elasticity. Because collagen stimulators rely on an organic process of the body, results are slower to appear than they are with dermal fillers. However, the results also tend to be more natural and longer-lasting.
We offer a variety of injectables at Skin Artisans because they address different needs. One of our licensed injectors will help you decide which one is most suitable for your goals.
SCULPTRA® AESTHETIC TREATMENT PROCESS
Virtually no preparation is needed before a Sculptra® Aesthetic treatment. During your consultation, please advise your injector of any medications, supplements, medical conditions, previous injections or other procedures that could impact your treatment. Once your injector has determined you’re a good candidate and established realistic expectations, you can proceed with treatment.
Sculptra® Aesthetic is a relatively simple and comfortable treatment. Your injector may use a small amount of anesthetic to maximize your comfort, then administer the injections with a small needle. After your injections, your injector will massage the area to help distribute the Sculptra® Aesthetic evenly and prevent the formation of lumps or nodules. The procedure typically takes 15 to 30 minutes.
SCULPTRA® AESTHETIC RECOVERY & DOWNTIME
There is no prescribed downtime after Sculptra® Aesthetic injections. Swelling may occur after your treatment and usually subsides within a few days. Other Sculptra® Aesthetic side effects you may experience include redness, tenderness, bruising, itching, lumps and injection site pain. You may return to your normal level of activity as soon as you feel comfortable with your appearance. Your injector may recommend avoiding excessive UV exposure and massaging the treated area for five minutes, five times a day, for five days after your appointment.
