Once your numbing cream is removed, your Skin Artisans Advanced Practice Esthetician will apply a hyaluronic acid gel to your skin so the device can glide smoothly over the surface of your skin. You may feel a mild vibration, but no pain should be expected with your treatment.
During a SkinPen® treatment, your provider will pay special attention to key areas of concern, such as acne scars and wrinkles. She may use a technique called “stamping” in these areas, which involves using a deeper setting for the microneedles in the same spot to induce a more profound injury. This technique may cause light, pinpoint bleeding at the skin’s surface, which will quickly resolve.
Your SkinPen® provider may also use platelet-rich plasma (PRP) during your treatment to enhance your results and quicken the healing process. This optional treatment method and its benefits will be discussed at your initial consultation.
What’s the Downtime Associated With a SkinPen® Treatment?
Immediately after a SkinPen® treatment, your skin will be slightly flushed and red, almost like a mild sunburn. Over the next few days, your skin may feel tight and dry as new cells push up toward the surface and dead cells slough away. Your provider will discuss how to care for your skin after microneedling, and makeup can be worn the day after your treatment, making SkinPen® very easy to fit into a busy lifestyle!
Most patients see a visible improvement in as little as one SkinPen® treatment. Still, a series of four to six are recommended to see a visible, significant improvement, especially with acne scarring.
